Thirteen years after his death and 19 years after winning the election adjudged to be the freest and fairest in the country, the Federal Government has renamed the University of Lagos in honour of the late business Mogul, Chief Moshood Abiola.
The decision was announced by President Goodluck Jonathan in his democracy day Broadcast to this nation this morning.
Mosshood Abiola died in Government custody 1993, after being arrested for declaring himself president following the annulment of the election he won in 2003 by the Babangida administration.
Meanwhile, student of the University, located in the south western state of Lagos has protested the renaming of the university after the late business mogul.
Thousands of students of the university shortly after the announcement by the president gathered at the main gate of the university forming human shield and refusing all cars from entering the university, chanting “we no want”.
They said the renaming of the university is a misplaced priority by the Jonathan Administration
